Neurological Rehabilitation

Our neurological rehabilitation program is designed to improve function, reduce limitations and improve overall well-being following onset of neurological impairment such as an acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, tumours, dementia, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Our customized programs address physical, cognitive and psycho-social deficits following neurological impairment. Complex Injury Rehab’s experienced therapists begin by completing a comprehensive assessment and then work with you to implement a treatment program to help you improve your functional status and return to your activities of daily living.

Our neurological rehabilitation services include:

After a traumatic personal injury event, it is critical to identify all areas of dysfunction through comprehensive assessment to develop the most effective treatment plan. Our experienced occupational therapists assess adults and children comprehensively, including physical, cognitive, behavioural and psycho-social aspects, and take a case management approach to every client’s care.

We facilitate return to work, sports or other activities by assessing both the injury and the required tasks of the job or activity then providing recommendations on modifications, adjustments and an implementation plan for gradual reintegration.

Our occupational therapists will introduce compensatory strategies to accommodate for identified areas of cognitive challenge and create a customized program designed to remediate those areas of challenge.

Chronic neurological pain can be debilitating and significantly impact one’s ability to engage in daily activities. Our therapists take a functional approach to treating chronic pain and will work with you to address how your chronic pain impacts your ability to participate in activities of importance to you.

With our experience in building both body and brain resilience, our therapists can design a program that safely and effectively helps you reach your rehabilitation goals and beyond. Whether you are looking to improve your range of motion, increase your strength and endurance or complete a task like climbing stairs, we can help.

As Assistive Device Program (ADP) Authorizers, we can prescribe specialized equipment that can help improve your mobility and independence like wheelchairs, hearing aids, canes and walkers, as well as provide training on how to use them.

We can prescribe assistive technologies including devices, software or equipment designed to help people work around their challenges. From low tech tools such as pencil grips to high tech apps to perform text to speech, we can help find solutions to make learning, working and living easier.

We conduct a thorough assessment of seating and wheelchair needs, including a physical assessment and discussion with the individual to ensure we prescribe the right equipment to optimize health and function.

We assess the home for safety and provide recommendations on how to make it accessible for clients based on their individual injuries and impairments. We collaborate with accessible design specialists and contractors to facilitate independence for our clients.

Our hand therapy program facilitates recovery for individuals who are experiencing compromised hand and wrist function following a fall, stroke or other neurological diagnosis, sports or work-related injury. We are proud to incorporate functional muscle electrical stimulation and other technology along with traditional techniques for upper extremity rehabilitation programming.

We provide rehabilitation services to highly dependent people in a coma or minimally conscious state, as they recover from a severe brain injury, in order to maximize therapeutic gains.

Chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-invasive treatment supporting the body’s musculoskeletal (MSK) system and associated neurological function, primarily by providing comprehensive, evidence-informed manual therapy.

Neurofunctional acupuncture is a precise treatment technique in which fine solid needles (acupuncture needles) are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites and stimulated for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Outcomes may include a reduction in pain, decreased muscle tonicity, and improved ease and quality of movement.

Yoga benefits all aspects of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being which supports a holistic, wellness-based lifestyle. Yoga therapy is a customized application of yoga techniques and practices to help individuals facing a variety of health and life challenges manage their condition, reduce symptoms, increase vitality, and improve their overall physical and emotional well-being. Yoga can be an excellent starting point for individuals who need to build up tolerances for activity and exercise, while gaining insight into their own health and wellness.

Mindfulness is the psychological process of purposely bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment without judgement, which one can develop through the practice of meditation. Reducing symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety and pain management have all been shown to be associated with mindfulness training.

Our clients work with a registered social worker to understand the neurological, psychological and environmental contributors of anxiety, stress and conditions of loneliness and despair that can disrupt quality of life experiences. The social worker and client then work together to find strategies and systems of support to make positive change.
