Manager of Business Development & Occupational Therapist

Ana is an Occupational Therapist with 29 years of experience, 17 in Canada. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings in public and private hospitals and in community rehabilitation in the private and non-profit sectors. She is passionate about upper extremity and neurorehabilitation and has extensive experience treating all age individuals who suffered a traumatic or acquired brain injury or orthopedic trauma. Ana practices in both English and Portuguese.

She graduated with a Master’s in Anatomy and a Bachelor in Science of Occupational Therapy with a specialization in hand therapy from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy, and the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists.

Ana also has years of experience in education and research. She taught Anatomy and Kinesiology in health-related programs in the Universities in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was an educator at the Hand Therapy Specialization program at Medical School of the University of Sao Paulo. She supervised many students from different programs and was an active participant in courses and conferences in Canada and other countries, attending and presenting on topics related to upper extremity and neurorehabilitation. Ana is interested in clinical research and strives to continue learning, focusing on best practices approach and current new technologies that can best address the needs of the clients. She has published articles in the area of upper extremity rehabilitation and severe brain injury and led the development of a new assessment measure for the Disorder of Consciousness called Comprehensive Assessment Measure for Minimally Consciousness Individuals – CAMMRI.

Throughout the years, Ana was able to wear different hats working as an Occupational Therapist, clinical – research leader, and program director at a non-profit organization that provides brain injury rehabilitation.

These experiences allowed Ana to develop not only her clinical skills but also her management skills. She is passionate for the area of rehabilitation and focuses her client-centered practice to improve independence and quality of life for her clientele. Ana brings this wealth of experience to the CIR team as a treating Occupational Therapist and in the role of Manager of Business Development, assisting CIR to promote and develop as a company that continues to offer the best rehabilitation services for their clients.
